Girls Make Games
Around the World 2018!
In our desire to take action to help lessen the gender gap in technology, The Chums will host the “GMG Around the World” initiative to bring the joy of game making to as many girls as possible around the world through free workshops. This pilot, introductory workshop is aimed at beginners, with emphasis on instilling a love and excitement for game-making as well as creative expression! See flyer below for program details.
We Support Family Engagement
The Zelma George Emergency Family Shelter
According to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016 Project ACT report, 2,646 school children were reported as homeless. Some families are living in temporary emergency shelters, such as the Zelma George Emergency Family Shelter. The Chums ‘programs are designed to empower, inspire and nurture families who are experiencing homelessness. The Salvation Army has a new 30,000 square-foot, Zelma George Emergency Family Shelter in downtown Cleveland offering residents privacy in apartment-like settings and expanded educational and recreational programs for children and families.

We Support little free libraries
The Chums are pleased to participate in the Little Free Library movement of “Take a Book, Return a Book” by becoming the proud sponsor of Fatima Family Little Free Library.
Each uniquely designed LFL box is designed to reflect the spirit of the community! In partnership with Fatima Family Center, The Chums design and implement on-going, sustainable, literacy based programs with a focus on children and families.
We Support project night night
Through the national Project Night Night program, the Cleveland Chums help children from the Zelma George Shelter have sweeter dreams. Every child who receives one of our Night Night packages leaves the shelter owning a book which encourages reading and family bonding, a security blanket which can be cuddled, and a stuffed animal which can become a cherished friend.
In the family engagement literacy piece, which emphasizes parents reading to their child, Storyteller Robin Echols Cooper takes the families on an animated journey as she brings vibrant characters to life through the use of storytelling and theater skills, vocal characterizations, gestures, creative movement and facial expressions. A real treat to all!
