According to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016 Project ACT report, 2,646 school children were reported as homeless. Some families are living in temporary emergency shelters, such as the Zelma George Emergency Family Shelter. The Chums ‘programs are designed to empower, inspire and nurture families who are experiencing homelessness. The Salvation Army has a new 30,000 square-foot, Zelma George Emergency Family Shelter in downtown Cleveland offering residents privacy in apartment-like settings and expanded educational and recreational programs for children and families.
