THE PROBLEM

All too often children become invisible to the system and outside help is needed.

ABOUT US

Local Chapters of Chums Incorporated find creative ways to support our communities through the building up of our children.  It's staggering to consider the statistics of our children that are minorities, disenfranchised, or come from low socio-economic backgrounds.  Many of the troubles our society faces stem from:

•    High school drop-out rates

•    Illiteracy

•    Child homelessness

Consider the Stats

1.2M Dropouts

Dropouts often fall quickly into poverty, unemployment, and violence without intervention.

Incarceration

There is a high correlation (8X) between dropping out of school leading to later incarceration.

Statistics show that 1.2 million students drop out of high school every year, many falling into a cycle of poverty, unemployment and violence. Drop-out rates are also related to higher rates of imprisonment, with minorities disproportionately affected. Studies show that high school drop-outs are eight (8) times more likely to be incarcerated.

Even with the staggering statistics and studies, there is hope!  Chums Incorporated women invest their time and use their influence to make our communities and society better places to live as a whole, by listening to our children and doing our part to enrich their lives.

How We Work

Chums establish relationships with schools, churches, child care services.  We partner with different organizations to identify the needs of our children and leverage our efforts to remove distractions that keep them from focusing on school, increase their confidence levels and assist with them with having strong relationships with their parents and family. We have projects that address children’s social skills and future educational needs, especially with the STEM programs.

We Donate To

In addition to hours of volunteer service to local communities, Chums raises funds for donations to National and International organizations, such as:

  • Hurricane Relief Efforts

  • NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund

  • National African American Museum

  • National Founders Day Scholarship

  • Sickle Cell of America

  • United Negro College fund

  • Youthbuild

We will make a difference.

Where We Focus Our Energies

CIVIC

We continue to co-exist with boycotting elections, disruptive political agendas, and tears of fear for black lives.

We Stand as a team, united in purpose and bonded together for the greater good of humanity providing donations to National and International Agencies.

EDUCATION

Through Sponsorships, we assist local area students in securing needed funds to attend college.  With over 1.2 million students dropping out each year, involvement is vital in preventing them from falling into poverty, unemployment, and violence.

COMMUNITY

Getting involved in your community is more important than ever to ensure your voice is heard in the communities we live and work in.  There are numerous activities or organizations actively in need of volunteers and patrons.
